Waterford School is looking for a Physical Education teacher for the Lower School. The successful candidate will be able to develop a healthy rapport with Lower School students and families, work... collaboratively with colleagues and will embrace Waterford School’s mission, vision, and core values .
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Plan and implement developmentally appropriate Physical Education lessons for all students in Kindergarten to Fifth Grade, understanding their developmental capacities (physical, social, cognitive).
Develop classroom management strategies that create a safe social and physical learning environment, where risk-taking is encouraged; respect for students of varying abilities and backgrounds is taught and modeled; and cooperation, problem-solving, and sportsmanship skills are taught.
Demonstrate, explain, and analyze basic movement skills and sports skills, working with students of all ability levels and interests. Passion to work with, motivate, and develop positive relationships with students that show less interest in sports and/or physical activity.
Implement state standards and provide instruction that promotes all skill development, knowledge and reasoning.
Develop and teach a wide variety of units, with the goal of reaching all students’ interests at some point during the school year. This includes teaching traditional team sports (soccer, basketball, volleyball) and non-traditional sports (traverse rock wall, ultimate Frisbee, juggling)
Plan and organize an end-of-year field day for Kindergarten to Fifth grade students, utilizing and working with parent volunteers to staff the event.
Throughout the year, work with teachers to provide PE activity that relates to historical studies (e.g., Ancient Greek Olympics, Rome Day, Egypt Day)
Stamina, patience, passion, and perseverance are important assets, as the PE teacher will teach multiple classes per week across the grade levels.
Complete progress reports on all students taught.
Additional responsibilities might include, after school athletic programming organization and development.

edTPA scoring is done remotely on a temporary/part-time basis in addition to your current educator role. Training and qualification takes approximately 19-24 hours, and is completed at your own pace within the project timeframe. Scoring begins after qualification on January 25th and concludes at the end of May. Portfolio volume varies throughout the season, and depending on the content area. However, we ask that Scorers commit to scoring 1-2 portfolios per week during our peak times. Portfolios take an average of 2-3 hours to score.
Training and Qualification is paid on an hourly basis; Scoring is paid at $75/portfolio after qualification

Purpose Statement
The Paraprofessional III (Physical Education) assists assigned teaching personnel in the supervision and instruction of students and performing classroom clerical tasks in support of the instructional process.
This position reports to the Principal.
Per Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), interested applicants must be Highly Qualified to be considered for the position. This includes having a high school diploma or a recognized equivalent, along with one of the following three items: 1) completed at least two years at an accredited higher education institution (minimum 48 semester hours), or 2) obtained an associates (or higher) degree from an accredited higher... education institution, or 3) satisfied a rigorous state or local assessment (Parapro Assessment). The higher education institution official transcripts or diploma, or a copy of the Paraprofessional Assessment must be provided with your application or upon a contingent offer of employment.
Minimum Qualifications
• High school or equivalent
• Ability to pass a fingerprint and criminal background check
• Must meet the Highly Qualified Requirements (ESSA) by meeting one or more of the following:
• Completed at least two years or 48 semester hours, of related coursework at an accredited, higher education institution or;
• Obtained an associate degree, or higher degree, from an accredited higher education institution, or;
• Pass the PRAXIS ETS Paraprofessional assessment with a score of 460 or higher
• Knowledgeable of age appropriate activities; stages of child development; classroom management techniques; and effective lesson planning.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and experienced using data-based software
• Speak, read, write, and present professionally, analyze, and interpret English written and verbal communications
• Ability to operate standard office equipment; phone, copy and fax machines etc.
Preferred Qualifications
Essential Functions
• Instruct students in the development of physical skills and abilities (e.g. motor skills, exercises, etc.) to meet the requirements of the State Core Physical Education curriculum.
• Adapt classroom work under the direction of the teacher and provide a method to support and/or reinforce lesson plans.
• Confer with teachers assisting in evaluating student progress and/or implementing student objectives.
• Implement students' learning and behavior plans to meet students' social and behavioral interventions, health care plans, and/or ensuring compliance with IEPs.
• Monitor individual students in a variety of settings (e.g. classroom, playground activities, etc.) providing a safe and positive learning environment.
• Perform record keeping and clerical functions (e.g. scheduling, copying, data recording, etc.) to support the teacher and administrator.
• Provide appropriate classroom intervention with students under the Teacher's direction (e.g. booster groups, individual instruction, small group instruction, etc.) improving student learning and academic success.
• Prepare teaching materials and related reports (e.g. grades, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) for the purpose of implementing lesson plans and documenting student progress.
• Report incidents (e.g. fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining the personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment and adhering to Education Code, administrative and/or school policies.
• Communicate effectively with diverse individuals and groups of people while maintaining confidentiality and building positive working relationships with employees and stakeholders.
• Participate in meetings, workshops, seminars, as assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or or gathering information required to perform functions.
• Work under limited supervision, utilizing time-management and prioritization strategies, accurately processing detailed information and meeting deadlines.
• Support a team environment by collaborating with own and other work units to effectively perform the duties of the position.
• Adapt to changing work priorities and work with frequent interruptions, as required.
• Speak, read, write, analyze, understand, and follow written and verbal communication in English including grammar and punctuation; listen to, and understand information and ideas presented verbally or in writing.
• Maintain regular and predictable attendance to fulfill job requirements efficiently and effectively.
• As needed, roll, push, pull, bend, reach, stoop, and lift up to 30 pounds.

Working Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity.
